For the expenses
involved in running our Independent Living center
great thanks are due to the director Didier of the
Lea Amis des Orphelinat de Rayong BP 197 06407
Cannes Cedex France.
Also great thanks to
a young man called Norman Vernon from Bolton England
for supplying the games equipment that the children
love so much in their spare time.
The Independent Living Center was
opened on August 7th, 2006. This Center is
considered to be the first of its kind in Asia.
The Center was built to help teenagers living
with HIV to acquire the skills to become
independent and able to live within the Thai
society. This Center is located in Map-Ta-Phut
about 6 kilometers from the main Center.
There are seventeen (17) young
people living at the Center at this time, summer
2010. The total capacity for young people is 30
in approximately equal number of boys and girls.
There are two (2) caregivers, a teacher and a
social worker, living at the Center. The young
people are in charge of taking their
anti-retroviral medicine on time and setting up
their own appointments at the local hospital.
The main center is still responsible for
providing the medicine that is not available
through the hospital and for all the living
expenses of the Independent Living Center. The
responsibilities of keeping and running the home
are handled by the seventeen (17) young people
and supervised by the caregivers. The young
people join us at the Camillian Social Center
Rayong for all our special activities and are
welcome to visit the main center at any time.
We believe this Center will be
the bridge to helping the Thai society to
understand and develop a positive attitude
towards accepting HIV positive people.
In the future, these young people
will become activists against the spread of
HIV/AIDS within the Thai society.
We are very thankful to Mr.
Pedrollo of Verona, Italy, the Thai Children’s
Trust in the United Kingdom and all our
benefactors for their support and belief in our
efforts to help the young people living with HIV
to have a better quality of life.

Enough
with the fun and games there is work to
do. All the living chores are carried
out by the kids. The cooking the
cleaning the laundry it is all done by
the children themselves. That also
includes the boys there is no sex
discrimination here they play there part
in the work.
Another
Young man from the US of A called Eddy
Quinlan who is a friend of Normans has
also supplied many wonderful things for
our children. This pagoda a games court

Who’s
turn is it to go to the market and who
