HIV/AIDS Network people gathering together to fight HIV/AIDS HIV/AIDS Network people gathering together to fight HIV/AIDS

Just hard work and determination that is all it took to get this and all the other networks throughout Thailand under way. Before these network came into being there was nothing. No help no drugs (ARV’s) no care only stigma and a great deal of that.

All those who now get free Anti Retro Viral Drugs from the Thai Government owe a great debt to Father Giovanni for his determinations too get these projects under way.

The Camillian Social Center in Rayong (CSC) fully supports that people living with people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) become organized to morally sustain each other and to protect their rights as Thai citizens. We believe that people living with people living with HIV/AIDS deserve to be treated with human dignity. The CSC initiated and funded the Southeast Region Network of people living with people living with HIV/AIDS and at the beginning provided an office on the CSC grounds. The Network office now operates autonomously from a storefront location in Rayong, which is about 20 km from the Center. Though the Network works independently it is still under the guidance and umbrella of the main Camillian Social Center.

The Southeast Region Network of people living with people living with HIV/AIDS is managed and controlled by  people living with people living with HIV/AIDS with an assembly of all the members as the supreme body and a committee as its executive arm. The network now has 63 local associations and a total membership of over 7,283 members. The network coordinators and local leaders set up the local associations. These centers are a very important first link for people who have been recently diagnosed with HIV, at this time many Thai people psychologically vulnerable.

The HIV/AIDS Southeast Region Network helps people living with people living with HIV/AIDS to be accepted into the Access To Care program and works to improve the standard of care offered by the government hospitals. Through the government program, people living with people living with HIV/AIDS have access to anti-retroviral (ARV) drugs. The Network personnel provide counseling, visit the homes of people living with people living with HIV/AIDS and continue advocating for the rights and better treatment of people living with people living with HIV/AIDS within the communities and governmental institutions.
