Marina yacht Club, Orphan’s day out.
Thank you all so very much.
Once again, as they did last year, several boat owners at Ocean Marina discovered that GIVING is infinitely more rewarding than RECEIVING. Fifty children of all ages from the Camillian Orphanage in Rayong, were treated to a day out on the water.
Leaving the dock at 10 o’clock they sailed to a quiet area near Bang Saray where all the boats anchored up for lunch. This was followed by three hours of complete madness and freedom in the beautiful, warm waters here. Swimming, paddling canoes, going on speed boat rides and generally being able to forget the restrictions of life ashore. To see these beautiful kids enjoying themselves like that was enough to break anybody’s heart.
While all this madness ensued, three young men with physical disabilities from the Father Ray Foundation sailed a small racing yacht in and out of the boats at anchor to demonstrate their sailing skills. This is all part of a new venture called FREEDOM SAILING intended to give people with disabilities a feeling of ‘freedom’ at sea, away from the restrictions of wheelchairs or crutches on land.
Then it was time to go back to the marina and life ashore. However there were still more treats to lessen the blow of a change back to reality. Ice creams and t shirts were handed out to one and all. It is a credit to the school that these children are the best behaved and most polite of children anywhere, with a complete absence of pushing nor impatience.
When the party was over some of the children gave a thank you speeches and photos were taken to record the occasion for one and all to see.
What a shining example of kind people giving their time and energy to help others, and in turn what a wonderful example of how children can retain the joy of being young and carefree at times but still be polite and respectful to others.
A big thank you to Ocean Marina and all the helpers and a great big thank you to these wonderful children who make us all want to become better people.
